Well hello. I’m back…

Jeans – Joes, Shirt – Club Monaco, Necklace – Ardene, Coat – hand me down, Bag – Longchamp, Shoes – Alexandre Herchcovich x Melissa

I know it’s been awhile. Life happens. But I hope to have this bad boy up and running with posts in no time.

Here’s a pic of me outside the tents for World MasterCard Fashion Week in Toronto. Kristy (Monochroma Chic) and I had a date for the Rudsak show. I’m a big supporter of the brand, and their Winter 2013 collection promises lots of the leather and fur-detailed outwear that we come to know and love from them. Fabulous. Visit my girl Kristy for her lovely outfit that day and more pics from the show. To top it off, we had McDonalds afterwards. Yep. That’s how we roll.

Style Sister picks…Target + Neiman Marcus Holiday Collection

Target and Neiman Marcus made big news this summer when they announced a gigantic holiday collection of 50 items featuring 24 CFDA designers. Last week, the official lookbook was released. Personally, I was expecting ALOT more and was pretty disappointed in most of the things I saw. The collection is ”alright” at best and in my opinion, only strong in the non-clothing department. Really, Target bit off more than they could chew (or some designers did a half-assed job). Whichever way you want to look at it.

HOWEVER, there are some great and notable items in the sea of crap. I’ll be aiming for these goodies in my online shopping on December 1st:

  1. rag & bone Men’s or Boy’s knit sweater – $69.99 or $49.99
  2. rag & bone shot glasses – $19.99
  3. Eddie Borgo letter opener – $34.99
  4. Band of Outsiders cookie cutters – $29.99
  5. rag & bone flask – $29.99
  6. Tory Burch lunch box – $19.99
  7. Tracy Reese dessert plates – $39.99

What do you think? Out of all the designers I think rag & bone did the best. All their items made my list and are totally awesome. I really love the fancy dessert plates from Tracy Reese, badass letter opener from Eddie Borgo and the hipster-ish cookie cutters from Band of Outsiders. The shot glasses and Tory Burch lunch box are a steal at $19.99. Did I miss anything worth noting? Perhaps I’d add items from Philip Crangi to the mix though I think they’re a bit expensive (a trinket box for $70? Yikes).

For those who are not familiar, you must have a US mailing address to send to if you buy Target online. And FYI, they’ve already announced the next designer collaboration is Prabal Gurung (!!) and the collection will be available Feb 2013. I can’t wait until Target is in Canada (March 2013) and we can shop for real in store!

Review: Loose Button Luxe Advent Calendar (Holiday 2012)

The holidays have come early with an amazing gift from Loose Button! The Luxe Advent Calendar contains 24 beauty surprises, each behind a numbered window. And even better, they’re all from four premium beauty brands: Lancome, Yves Saint Laurent, Giorgio Armani, and Shu Uemura! YES.

The Luxe Advent Calendar arrived in a huge, 14 x 21.5 inch box, beautifully wrapped in white and gold wrapping paper. With the package was a thank you note card and a promise of a $10 gift card to the NEW online Loose Button retail store! (News flash: there’s a new LB online retail store coming very soon!).

Now for the good stuff. The calendar is grey in colour with windows of many shapes and sizes.  On the back is a full listing of the products inside. Admittedly, I didn’t bother to look at the back and ripped open every window the entire advent calendar in less than 1 minute (no patience, I know). And wow, what fantastic samples!

I’ve split up the products by brands so you can get a better idea what is inside the calendar. Basically, there are perfumes, lip, eye and skin products. They were:

Shu Uemura:

  • Phyto-black lift radiance boosting lotion
  • Phyto-black lift anti-wrinkle concentrate
  • Fresh pore clarifying gentle cleansing oil
  • Gloss unlimited WN 283S

Giorgio Armani:

  • Acqua di gioia eau de parfum
  • Attitude EDT
  • Prive eau de jade
  • Eyes to kill mascara
  • Fluid master primer
  • Regenessence cream multi-corrective rejuvenating cream
  • Regenessence youth regenerator

YSL (Yves Saint Laurent):

  • Forever youth liberator eye cream
  • Forever youth liberator serum
  • Dessin du regard waterproof eye pencil
  • Belle d’opium eau de parfum
  • Opium eau de toilette vaporisateur
  • Mascara volume effet faux cils shocking
  • Rough pur couture lipstick

Lancome:

  • L’absolu rouge advanced replenishing & reshaping lip colour pro-xylane SPF 12
  • Bi-Facil double action eye makeup remover
  • Genifique youth activating concentrate
  • Hypnose doll lashes doll lash effect mascara
  • Tresor eau de parfum spray
  • Visionnaire advanced skin corrector

Whew, what a beauty haul!  I’m really thrilled with every lip and eye product (7 total) in the calendar. My absolute faves are the mini red lipstick from YSL and all three mascaras! I also never have a complaint against Lancome bi-facil eye makeup remover. If you haven’t tried it, it’s fantastic. However, I feel the calendar went overboard on the perfumes (not my thing) and I predict some of the younger Loose Button customers will start bitching about how they don’t need anti-aging products. All I can say is it never hurts to try and use early or to take care of your skin in general. Because everyone wants glowing and healthy skin, right? Don’t be anti anti-aging products! Personally, I’m all for more of them and they’re great to take on trips with they’re compact sizing. In general there are many items in the calendar that I’ve never tried (some I’ve never even heard of) so I’m excited to test them all out!

I think I would have liked to see nail polish (YSL or Shu Uemura to be specific) and definitely some more eye products. Next time, Loose Button! I also feel the advent calendar box itself could be a bit fancier considering the contents inside. Perhaps instead of various rectangles you could have more defined shapes, giving a better hint to what could be inside.

It’s great that one can try such a variety of products without having to pay the full price. I think the Luxe Advent calendar is a great gift for a friend or a really nice splurge for yourself during the holidays. Because let’s face it, you probably can blow $100 on makeup without blinking at Sephora/Holt Renfrew/any other department store anyway, right? This way you can try the products without having to pay the full price. If I was pricing this gift, however, I would have placed the cost at $99. At $10 cheaper, I think Loose Button would still be able to make a profit as well as customers are less likely to freak at the price (2 digits v. 3 digits). Either way, it’s definitely worth it if you love the products and brands being offered!

And to think I thought a chocolate advent calendar was pretty amazing. Now I know better.

The Loose Button Luxe Advent Calendar is available now on the LB website for $109. Quantities are limited so if you would like one for yourself or as a gift to a friend you better hurry!
